

Electrocardiographic findings of atrial flutter are flutter waves without an isoelectric line in between QRS complex. Ītrial flutter is a macro-reentrant tachycardia and depending on the site of origin can be typical or atypical atrial flutter. In this review will summarize the management of atrial flutter.Ītrial flutter is one of the most common arrhythmias and is characterized by an abnormal cardiac rhythm that is fast with an atrial rate of 300beats/min and a ventricular rate that can be fixed or be variable that can cause palpitations, fatigue, syncope, and embolic phenomenon. Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter are the most common of these atrial arrhythmias, and the other less common supraventricular arrhythmias are atrial tachycardias, atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia, atrioventricular nodal tachycardia, and others. Bi-atrial anastamosis for orthotopic heart transplantation provides an ideal substrate for reentry, as the incision forms the posterior barrier to conduction and the atrium is usually enlarged to accommodate the arrhythmia circuit.Supraventricular arrhythmias are a diverse group of atrial arrhythmias.

Incisional reentrant atrial tachycardia is macroreentry around a surgical incision. The atrial rate in true atypical atrial flutter is usually more rapid (340-440 cycles per minute) than that of typical atrial flutter, and the direction of rotation may be clockwise or counterclockwise. This includes leading circle reentry or reentry around a variety of naturally occurring anatomic boundaries. Atrial flutter is therefore a general term used to define a heterogeneous group of macroreentrant supraventricular tachyarrhythmias that may exist in either atrium. Macroreentrant circuits manifesting as atrial flutter may propagate around anatomic, surgical, or functional barriers.
